In the recent test between South Africa and Australia, Cameron Bancroft was caught using a yellow adhesive tape and dirt to get reverse swing in the ball. This resulted in Smith and Warner resigning as captain and vice-captain of the Australian side. The jury has ruled for a one year ban for Smith and Warner and a 9-month ban for Bancroft. The BCCI has also announced that Smith and Warner, who is the captain for Sunrisers Hyderabad will not be playing for their respective teams this IPL. What are the replacements for them?
He is the frontline option for both the teams as he is the best foreign batsman who went unsold. If Sunrisers get him, then he may also captain the side.
Although he is not a big attraction, he may prove useful for the Rajasthan Royals. They have already handed over the captaincy to Rahane so they just need a solid batsman. He has played for the franchise before and his performance in the Nidahas Trophy shifts the favor in his side.
Sunrisers could take him as an opener but the captaincy will have to be handed to Williamson and they don’t want him to play all the matches.
If Shikhar is the captain then Sunrisers would go with Simmons. He has a history of coming in for an injured player and cementing his place in the team.
The Royals would be taking a big risk by buying Morgan but it could pay off if he is in form. Hyderabad could look at him as a captaincy candidate and a finisher and pinch hitter.
With his current form, he should be picked up by one of the teams. Sunrisers can utilize him more.
Rajasthan Royals are in trouble as Steve Smith was their most important player and there are not many replacements for him.
Sunrisers Hyderabad can find a replacement more easily than their Rajasthan counterparts but the void left by Warner will be hard to fill.
