Global T20 Canada

Canada is starting a new league with 6 teams in total. 5 based upon Canadian cities and one West Indies Board Representative XI. The teams consist of Zimbawian, Sri Lankan, Emirati, Canadian, West Indian, Pakistani and Australian players. Steve Smith and David Warner will make comebacks to cricket through this league. It starts on 28th June with the final being held on 15th July 2018. In this blog, I’ll be analysing the teams’ squads while choosing the best playing eleven for each side. I am not going to be rating the teams as yet as I don’t know how some of these players play and I am selecting them on the basis of stats.

Edmonton Royals – I think this team has a good balance but there is a lack of backup. In the team which I have picked, I have selected 3 spinners and 3 fast bowlers which gives Afridi a lot of options to choose from as captain. The middle order looks a little fragile, but the pace bowling and the top order looks great.

  1. Chris Lynn
  2. Luke Ronchi
  3. Shaiman Anwar
  4. Asif Ali
  5. Christiaan Jonker
  6. Shahid Afridi (c)
  7. Agha Salman
  8. Hasan Khan
  9. Sohail Tanvir
  10. Mohammad Irfan
  11. Wayne Parnell

Montreal Tigers – The team I selected bats very deep. Spin bowling is good but the fast bowlers are not very effective. Either they are inexperienced or a little much inexperienced. Malinga, who was part of the coaching staff for MI this year, will lead the bowling attack for them.

  1. Sunil Narine
  2. Mohammad Hafeez
  3. George Worker
  4. Sikandar Raza
  5. Najibullah Zadran
  6. Thisara Perera
  7. Denesh Ramdin
  8. Dasun Shanaka
  9. Isuru Udana
  10. Sandeep Lamicchane
  11. Lasith Malinga

Toronto Nationals – As all the matches will be played in Toronto, this team can be called the ‘home team’ of the tournament. The team I picked is quite inexperienced in terms of bowling but they have experts in for batting. Steve Smith will play for them alongside West Indian stalwarts like Darren Sammy and Kieron Pollard.

  1. Kamran Akmal
  2. Johnson Charles
  3. Steve Smith
  4. Hussain Talat
  5. Kieron Pollard
  6. Darren Sammy (c)
  7. Rohan Mustafa
  8. Nikhil Dutta
  9. Kesrick Williams
  10. Usama Mir
  11. Rumman Raees

Vancouver Knights – This team has some very valuable and experienced batsmen, but the bowling attack relies completely upon Tim Southee. The team I chose has only 1 full-time spinner, but he too is very inexperienced. Bowling is not their strong pursuit so they would have to rely on their opening combo and finishing touches.

  1. Chris Gayle
  2. Evin Lewis
  3. Babar Hayat
  4. Chadwick Walton
  5. Ruvindu Gunasekara
  6. Andre Russell
  7. Steve Jacobs
  8. Jeremy Gordon
  9. Sheldon Cottrell
  10. Fawad Ahmed
  11. Tim Southee

Winnipeg Hawks – This team has the deadliest Top 6 in all of the teams. All their batsmen are capable of playing match-winning innings. But they only have 5 bowlers including Dwayne Bravo. Only one of them is a spinner, and two of them have never played a T20I match ever before. Still , the team is capable of finding young talents and nurture them this year.

  1. David Warner
  2. Lendl Simmons
  3. Ben McDermott
  4. Darren Bravo
  5. David Miller
  6. Dwayne Bravo
  7. Hamza Tariq
  8. Rayad Emrit
  9. Mark Deyal
  10. Ali Khan
  11. Fidel Edwards
